Product safety conference register (s. 65 of the Trade Practices Act)
The ACCC, under s. 95 (1)(h) and s. 95 (1)(j) of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (the Act), maintains public registers of product safety conferences relevant to ss. 65J, K, M and N of the Trade Practices Act 1974 (repealed in 2011) for conducting conferences to review proposed and emergency bans, or proposed compulsory recalls of consumer products, and for making recommendations to the Minister.
Sections 132D and 132G of the Act now operate in a similar manner to the repealed TPA provisions to ensure that decisions made in relation to bans or compulsory recalls of products are published. However, there is no requirement for the ACCC to maintain a public register of product safety conferences or recommendations under the Act. Details of bans or compulsory recalls of products are now published at www.productsafety.gov.au.
This is an historical register of product safety conferences and ACCC recommendations to the Minister under the TPA prior to 2011.
